Can a rabbit live off grass? And how much grass would it take a day?

Can they live off just grass and water and can I feed them trimmings from the lawn and will they be ok with just that? Can a rabbit live off grass? And how much grass would it take a day?
Wild rabbits do!

I only give them yard trimmings when the grass is freshly mowed or after it has dried.

Its not a recommended thing because they don't get enough minerals that way. As the wild rabbit has many places to roam to get them as a pet rabbit is confined to a small area.

So many people spray their yards with chemicals.

rabbits do like a variety like us. Dandelions, clover, a small handful of grass, hay, pellets, a slice of apple , a few carrots,, bananas, a few small tomatoes. give the rabbit a few things each day.

NO- lettuce or celery gives them the poops !Can a rabbit live off grass? And how much grass would it take a day?
Rabbits cannot live solely on grass trimmings. Especially if the grass is from a rather populated area where fertilizers may have been used in nearby lawns.

Adult rabbits need 1/8 of a cup of pellets per five pounds, 1-2 cups of fresh vegetables, and 1 tablespoon of fruit. That as well as unlimited amounts of grass hay. Young rabbits need unlimited pellets and unlimited alfalfa hay.
Instead of grass - consider feeding him timothy hay. Timothy hay can be a complete diet for most rabbits (you can supplement with some greens - but not too much.) Timothy hay is cheap depending on where you live. I live in an urban area and can pick up a bale of timothy hay for about $25. It lasts for 4-6 months (and I feed 5 rabbits.)

Grass trimming will probably give them runny stools and does not help them keep their teeth from growing too long like timothy hay will.

Also - make sure it's timothy hay - not alfalfa! Check out this site for more information:

Good luck to you and your rabbit! :
Yes but rabbit food is not expensive. Go to walmart, petco or petsmart and get it some food. I buy hay and pellets. My bunny loves apples fresh fruit and veggies. A good variety of foods will make a healthy bunny.
