I have a 10 month old female Lop who has stopped drinking water. She is also making crazy squeaky noises at me and bites my hand when I put it in her cage. Her pee is also smelling a lot more than usual. She usually needs her bottle refilled 3 times a week but she hasn't touched it and I'm getting worried. She also is a HUGE snuggle bug and all of a sudden I can't get near her:( Is she in heat? Is she sick?My rabbit stopped drinking water and has become aggressive over the last 3 days.. is this a phase or what?
Rabbits become more aggressive the more dehydrated they get!
If your rabbit is not taking fluids, then you absolutely MUST get her to a vet as soon as possible, an emergency vet hospital if you can. They can starve or die of dehydration VERY VERY easily, and she is most definitely ill. There could be a lot of different reasons she isnt drinking, from an abscess in her mouth, to a hairball weighing her tummy, not letting her have room for anything. She may also have urine crystals that can hurt and make the urine smell worse, and can lead to kidney infections.
There are too many possibilities to try to figure out on your own, please please please take her to a vet right this minute before whatever has happened to her becomes terminal!
EDIT/ADDITION
I am in agreement with Rebecca M's words (below) regarding spaying your bunny, as it can also add over a year to its life, so despite your current problem, I ask that you please consider spaying her. Thanks! My rabbit stopped drinking water and has become aggressive over the last 3 days.. is this a phase or what?
There are two issues here. The first and most urgent one is that she is not drinking water. It is important you get her to a vet asap. Bunnys can die very quickly and easily if they stop eating and drinking. You should consider putting the water into a bowl. Most bunnys actually drink more water out of a bowl. Do you give her veg like romaine lettuce? Try washing it in water first and then at least she'll get some more water that way.
The second issue is the aggresive behaviour. This is generally a sign of hormones. You need to get her spayed. 80% of female bunnys will get cancer if they are not spayed. It also makes them move loving. calmer bunnys. She will be less destructive and have less desire to bite, lunge or growl at you.
I have a lop bunny and had exactly the same problems as you. She didn't drink much so I switched to a simple bowl and she couldn't get enough water. Her behaviour was became so aggressive and destructive so I got her spayed and the change in her was like magic overnight. Please please though be careful when you bring her to a vet as you need to make sure that your vet specialises in exotics as you'd be surprised at how many vets don't know much about bunnys. Check out www.rabbit.org. They can list good reputable vets in your area.
