when i wanted a pet i couldnt have,
i went out and bought one anyway =]
my mom was annoyed but not madHow do i convince my parents to let me get a rabbit?
What about an outdoor rabbit? Animals are made to live outdoors, and i have 2 rabbits that are outside right now in hutches. It gets very cold and even hot where i live, and they are fine, if it gets cold then i put more hay/bedding in and if its hot then i put wood chips down and a lot of bedding, this is fine, and then you could get your rabbit! And well your mom/grandma that you would let them use the rabbit at the day care- the kids would have fun, and they could learn responsibiltly to feed it, too. Just a thought hope i helped
oh serena you sound soooo cute! This is my advice to you, firstly i would try and get hold of 'rabbit care books' possibly second hand and start reading them and also make them very visable in front of your mom so it kind of drops the hint that you are really serious about it. I wouldn't mention it anymore just keep reading (and leaving these books or leaflets around). You could also leave your computer on at a 'rabbit care' page so when mom walks by she see's it!! Then i would try and make some enquiries maybe in your area to see if anyone is selling (or giving away) a rabbit hutch then your mom will not think she has to shell out for the hutch. If you get pocket money, try saving some for these purposes and then she may really see your interested. Near where i live there is a little farm that has rabbits and people can volunteer (or just visit) for the day. Hopefully mom will get the message by christmas, good luck honey- keep me posted!
I don't know if a rabbit is right for you. Please don't get one as a pet for the daycare - rabbits and small children are not a good mix. Plus children can be allergic to the rabbit and/or the hay.
If You really want one, you need to do a lot of research and make sure you know what you are getting into. Rabbits are a 10 year commitment. They need plenty of time outside of a cage to exercise, they love to chew walls, baseboards and carpet. And vet visits can be very expensive. Do you have a job to pay for all of this?
One thing you might consider is asking your mom if you both can foster for a shelter or rescue. This way, you can get a rabbit that really needs a home and find out if a pet rabbit is right for you. If it turns out they are not, then you are not obligated to keep it.
And never leave your pet rabbit outside. They can die from predators, disease and loneliness. Yes, rabbits can get depressed and die. They need to be indoors and made a part of the family, just like a cat or dog.
Good luck.
My daughter had a lop-earred rabbit. Left him outdoors and a hawk carried the rabbit away...
