i know that you are supposed to get them spayed or neutered when they are old enough and i am going to but i am wondering if it has any bad effects on them? does anyone know of any? also what are the good effects? What are the effects of neutering/spaying a rabbit?
In most cases, they become less, aggressive/rowdy, and become more gentle and docile...
Good effects:
-you can house a male and a female rabbit together, without them having tons and tons of babies.
-their urine(wee) doesn't smell as bad.
-they're more friendly towards other rabbits and you
Bad effects:
-In some rare cases it has been known for the rabbit to not be neutered/spayed properly, and therfore the other rabbit has ended up pregnant
-Sometimes(not often) surgery's go wrong and therfore your rabbit ends up in pain from the waist down--you know what i mean..-_-...
Hope i helped =)
But yeah..i'd definetly say to get you're rabbits neutered/spayed..it's very helpful, trust me..the males especially can be a bit of a pain. What are the effects of neutering/spaying a rabbit?
There aren't many bad effects. It's very uncommon to have something go wrong in a procedure like this. On a male the good effects are decreasing Aggression, obviously breeding, It gets rid of any over hormonal behavior. On females It reduces the chance of getting tumors. i know theres more but there the main ones. If you have a female i wouldn't bother getting it spayed unless its with males. But with a male i would get it neutered because it turns them into tame unagressive animals =].
The positive effects are that you won't have hundreds of rabbits around that no one wants. The bad effects are the same as with any surgery. For a few days your rabbit will be lethargic and may have minor pain. Then it will lead a longer and happier life with you.
There is a small risk with any surgery, but if you are not going to be breeding your buns, then definitely get them ';fixed';. It reduces behavioral issues, and generally makes them calmer and happier. It also greatly reduces risk of certain diseases.
Well.... no babies! the rabbits will be nicer and less hormonal. I don't think that there is any bab effects though.
ditto to lisa's answer she is spot on!
