With HUGE difficulty! When I had a house rabbit, thankfully he never had to have meds. Think it's probably the same principle as with my cats - although they don't have quite so much power in their hind legs! I assume you have tried all the tricks like 'injecting' the antibiotic into a treat she likes, putting a drop into a tiny amount of water you can check she drinks? If all gentle tactics fail hold her on your lap, or wherever she feels comfortable, wrap her in a towel to hold her feet in check and GENTLY grip her jaws at each side - sounds awful but if you do it gently she won't be hurt, however much she squeaks - she can't help but open her mouth - put the drops in and rub her throat a few times - make sure she swallows. Let her go and 5 minutes later she will forget it ever happened. How do you give a 5 year old rabbit liquid antibiotics?
Use a syringe and squirt the medication into the cheek pocket on the side of his/her mouth.
i used a syringe and lay my rabbit on her back a poped it in her mouth and injected it in slowly. If you are having problems contact your vet, they will or should tell you to visit them each day and they will administer the drug. Good luck
Normally it's a lot easier to give your rabbit antibiotics via a subcataneous injection under the hide right behind the rabbit's head. I'd suggest you have the vet show you how to give a subcataneous injection and have the vet give you injectable antibiotic instead of antibiotics that have to be given to the rabbit orally. The injectable form will probably solve the infection better anyhow.
I am assuming you went to the vet for this medication. i would call the vet and ask someone there for their help on this. i am sure that they have had so many problems with animals not wanting to take their medication. If there is any trick out there a vet would know it!
Hi
I had to give my house rabbit sunny sauasge liquid medication we placed him in our arms like a baby and gently syringe fed it to him it took a few attempts! but we soon managed it, also sometimes the vet has told me to mix it with something sweet like honey.
Hope this helps good luck
